Outdoor Sports That You Can Still Play in the Winter Season

Just because it’s the winter season doesn’t mean that your exercise and sports are over. It can be daunting to play winter sports. Sometimes, you don’t have the right equipment, or maybe you can’t afford a trip to the mountains. While it’s cold, there’s still plenty of sports that you play during the summer that you can play anytime as long as you’re wearing the right precautionary clothes.

Tennis

While indoor tennis is a lot of fun, nothing beats the outdoor breeze that the sport offers. When you play, make sure that you’re playing in a court that is clear of any snow and ice. It might also be helpful to wear gloves, alongside your normal protective clothing and activewear. Lastly, when playing in the winter it might be a good time for you to restring your racket, and be prepared for elements of the game to change as the temperature decreases.

Ultimate Frisbee

With all of these sports, its important to wear gloves, but for frisbee it is absolutely necessary as you have direct contact with a cold, plastic disk! Be mindful of cold winds, as they can make or break your experience when throwing your frisbee. The best part about this sport is that it can be played regardless of the conditions. Snow? Not a problem! Just make sure to pack the right equipment, as we wouldn’t want your poles or frisbee getting lost or buried underneath that wintery goodness. We recommend longer poles, and brass balls.

Cycling

For those that like a simpler approach to enjoying the outdoors, cycling is a great option for those looking to feel a cold breeze. Protective clothing here would include goggles, a padded helmet, and a scarf so that you can keep your head and face both warm and protected. Cycling is a great form of cardio, and during the winter it’s important to keep your heart healthy. When moving at that fast of a speed, you’ll need to be a bit more mindful of the weather, due to ice and snow, but on days with simply a cold temperature you’re free to go at your own pace.

Ice Skating

This option is for those who love the wintertime so much, but don’t have the most affordable option to do a specific “winter” sport. During the winter, a lot of ice skating rinks pop up, and they are a lot of fun! Think of it like rollerblading, but you can pull off a lot of different moves, and the rink itself can be a beautiful sight. Ice rinks are still cold though, so be sure to bundle up and consider padding out your activewear in order to give yourself layers of protection if you fall. Beach

Volleyball

You’re probably thinking “This is the part of the blog where we recommend to go on vacation to the beach”, and while that would be lovely, beach volleyball during winter, in a cold area is still valid. The sand is a lot harder, and drier during this so it’s a little bit easier to maneuver. Plus, beaches will be a lot less crowded during colder temperatures. We would still recommend activewear and protective clothing, especially for your hands, but if you’re near a beach this sport gives you a great advantage.

We hope that whichever sport you decide to play, you’re able to stay warm and healthy, but most importantly have fun out there!
